Level of French Proficiency

A1

  • One can communicate in simple and routine tasks.
  • One can capable of making short social exchanges. Where diction is clear, slow and well-articulated.
  • One can understand simple expressions and common phrases related to areas of most immediate relevance to me such as personal and family details, shopping, my local area, and the working environment.
  • One can pronounce words clearly enough to be understood during very simple exchanges even if the person to whom I am speaking asks me to repeat them.

B1

  • One can understand and discuss various topics encountered in daily life and give their opinion about such topics.
  • One can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst traveling in an area where the language is spoken.
  • One can enter into a conversation on familiar topics (e.g. work, school, hobbies, etc).
  • One can able to express their personal opinion.
  • One can use simple terms to relate an experience, event, story in the books or films, and describe their own reactions to it.

DELF

Diplôme d’études en langue française is the official diploma of French language awarded by the French Ministry of National Educational. It is conducted to test the French language proficiency of non-native speakers. This exam is administered by the International Centre for French Studies on behalf of France’s Ministry of Education. DELF Diploma is widely recognized in about 165 countries and valid for lifetime.

The independent certificates for each level correspond to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). CEFR is a guideline produced by the Council of Europe after 12 years of research. Four language skills are assessed at each level: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
